Submission Text
Clarify the third part of the proposed statement to state that those contacted be informed the debt can only be legally collected from the decedent's estate. RATIONALE: As a provider of Elder Law, it has been my observation that many elderly spouses become executors/administers, and are very easily confused between a valid debt against the estate and a moral obligation to pay the decedent's debt. Such clear language would be a tremendous service to our current parents, the members of the Greatest Generation, who have not discussed monetary matters with spouses and children. It would also be a great service to the rest of us who hope to grow old but whose mental facilities will not be as sharp as in younger years.
