Submission Text
Fines and future regulations and reviews do not sufficiently alert past and current Facebook users of the liabilities associated with using the website. If Facebook illegally provided information to third parties, altered or ignored or otherwise subverted required privacy permissions and consents, then there ought to be at least some form communication to users; such as, (1) the content of the information that was provided to third parties, (2) which parties received this information, and (3) the amount this information was sold for and/or to what use the leaked information was put to. This information could be e-mailed to users, made available on the Facebook site itself, or sent via postal mail. Users then will have a decent understanding of the scope and seriousness of the issue and will be able to leave the service if they so wish. The current FTC agreement does not seem to provide users with enough information to make an informed decision. Doing this will also strongly encourage Facebook to prevent such embarrassment in the future.
