In view of the epidemic in identity theft, I believe every consumer should have free access to their own credit report at least once per year. This is also important to ensure the accuracy of credit reporting. The increased costs to the credit reporting agencies will, naturally, be passed on to the lenders and others requesting credit information in order to make informed credit decisions. I believe this would ultimately benefit both the consumer and the creditors by helping to ensure accurate information in the credit reporting process. Consumers could work to clear incorrect reports before they become a problem.
