Comments:
The credit bureaus clearly have the ability and the profit margin right now to implement the new law allowing consumers to access their report for free once per year without undue hardship to their businesses. It also seems discriminatory to make those on the east coast wait nearly a year longer than those on the west coast to benefit from a consumer protection law. I urge you to eliminate the rolling implementation proposal and begin enforcement of the act uniformly across the country on the same date, as soon as possible. I am a housing and credit counselor for a nonprofit housing agency in Concord, New Hampshire. We encourage our participants to be aware of their credit, unfortunately, the cost of pulling their own report prevents them from doing so. Implementation of the new law will make a significant difference in our ability to prepare potential home owners for getting a mortgage loan.
