Being a public high school teacher who teaches Health Education, I firmly believe that guidelines are needed for companies that place ads on TV and the Internet. Without guidelines, the children and teens in this country will be exposed to advertising that encourages them to make poor nutritional choices and buy junk food. The percentage of young children and teenagers who are overweight or obese has tripled over the past 30 years. It is no wonder, considering how much advertising they see for pizzas, hamburger-and-fries meals, sugary drinks, etc.
Please make the guidelines as stringent as possible so that the young people in this country will not be seeing ads for junk foods. I'd like to see large sums of money spent on advertising for fruits, vegetables, and the like. Our government needs to protect and educate our children--not let corporate greed ruin our children's health.
