Submission Text
As a US citizen, taxpayer, and parent, I do not support the proposed Interagency Working Group (IWG) Proposed Food Marketing Guidelines. I urge the immediate cessation of consideration for these guidelines for the following reasons:
1. As a parent with 3 small children, my wife and I, alone are responsible for the decisions regarding appropriate nutrition for our family. Only we are in the position to know and manage the well-being of our children.
2. As an American, whom lives under the Law, that exist for the sole purpose of protecting my individual liberty and property rights, I will not accept any law or government action that infringes on my creator-endowed rights.
3. Even if the first 2 reasons were not sufficient (and they are), the legislation passed by my duly elected, representatives clearly calls for the completion of a study of these matters to inform any decisions. This study has not be concluded. In no available and creditable study has anything but a corollary relation to these foods (and their marketing) to obesity or ill-health been established. Unlike poison and other dangerous substances where a singular and causal connections have been established and responsible laws and regulations are appropriate, these rules will have virtually zero-efficacy to the stated ends. They will very effectively raise the costs to American families for these food categories with no value created to the consumer through; higher prices, more limited availability, and less competition.
Sincerely,
Garrett S. Cole
