|Agency:||Federal Trade Commission|
|Rule:||16 CFR Part 610 Amendments to Rule to Prevent Deceptive Marketing of Credit Reports and to Ensure Access to Free Annual File Disclosures|
Comments:I agree 100% that Congress should make rules that would allow citizens to get thier "official" free credit report each year WITHOUT BEING BOMBARDED AND DISCEPTIVELY MISLEAD TO OTHER SITES THAT ARE ACTUALLY JUST TRYING TO GET MONEY OUT OF UNWITTING FOLKS who are just trying to get thier free reports. I feel like I am navigating a mine field when I attempt to get annual free credit reports, and I have to be on CONSTANT guard to make sure I don't click on the wrong buttons or don't get misled down some rat hole that will end up costing me money. I feel like I am playing a computer game and the objective is to avoid as many "traps" as possible to get the free credit report. So, yes....please pass a law that prevents ANY advertising to pop up during someone's attempt to get their free credit report. In fact, I would prefer that you not allow anything, any advertisements, links, etc, from being on that page. But I guess you can't do that, so the next best thing is to prevent "tricking" the consumer until after the consumer has received the authentic free credit report.
