|Rule:||16 CFR Part 610 Amendments to Rule to Prevent Deceptive Marketing of Credit Reports and to Ensure Access to Free Annual File Disclosures|
Comments:BY ALL MEANS PUT INTO EFFECT THE PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO PREVENT DECEPTIVE MARKETING: (SEE FURTHER COMMENTS BELOW YOUR PROPOSAL) The proposed amendments would require certain advertisements for "free credit reports" to include prominent disclosures designed to prevent consumers from confusing these "free" offers with the federally mandated free annual file disclosures available through the single centralized source. In addition, the Commission proposes amendments to delay advertisements for products and services through the centralized source until after the consumer receives his or her free annual file disclosure, and to prohibit other practices that may interfere with the free file disclosure process. Finally, the Commission proposes certain technical amendments to the Rule. I have spent HOURS ONLINE to get a Free Credit Report, to no avail. Ended up paying for a month @$16., getting the credit report, and then calling back and canceling the monthly report. Not only that but the FICO SCORE they gave me was totally wrong for all 3 - I finally PAID MYFICO.COM to get a valid credit report and FICO score which was over 50 pts. higher than any of the "free ones" (Mine was through CreditDiagnosis.com) I will never use their site again. THE FTC SHOULD ALSO MAKE THE FREE CREDIT REPORT CLEARLY STATE THAT IT IS FREE W/NO STRINGS ATTACHED. ALL THESE CREDIT REPORTING COS. THAT "OFFER" FREE SCORES COME WITH MONTHLY FEES, which you don't learn until you have filled out ALL THE INFORMATION FOR YOUR FICO/CREDIT SCORE. THIS IS A TOTAL SCAM AND WASTE OF MONEY AND TIME, FORCING THE PUBLIC TO SIGN UP FOR CREDIT REPORTS ON A MONTHLY BASIS WHEN THEY PURPORT TO BE FREE!
