To Whom It May Concern
As a hunter, pet owner, and animal lover, I am writing in support of the proposed changes to the Fur Products Labeling Act as amended by the Truth in Fur Labeling Act. The combination of these two Acts appears to strike the right balance between accurately labeling fur products while protecting the rights of hunters/trappers who wish to sell the furs so very little of the animal is wasted.
I believe hunters/trappers in the United States take exceptional care when harvesting animals but the same cannot be said for other parts of the world. Having a law which requires the proper labeling of fur products including the types of animals which produced the fur and the country of origin of imported furs or fur products will help give the consumer the correct information to make an informed choice.
Many countries do not have or do not enforce laws to help prevent against cruelty to animals when harvesting animals in the wild or at fur farms. As an animal lover, I find it encouraging the United States is taking an active approach to protecting our wildlife against abuse.
