As a past president of the Indiana Jewelers Association and current Board of Directors member, I whole-heartedly agree with Jewelers of America, Jewelers Vigilance Committee, Manufacturing Jewelers and Suppliers of America, American Gem Society, and Platinum Guild International regarding "JEWELRY GUIDES, MATTER NO. G711001." Platinum/base metal jewelry should NOT be allowed to use the term "platinum." The current FTC proposal is unworkable in terms of industry implementation and would be confusing to consumers. The suggested change is not in harmony with international standards. We agree with the recommendation that the FTC consider a new and different name for jewelry comprised of platinum and base metals.
