We tried to get a loan modification on our mortgage held by Nattional City Bank. We were within the perameters of the 31% and were told we were elligible. We were told we had passed the first stage 3 weeks ago. Today we were told that we were being denied a modification because WE ARE NOT IN ARREARS. We are 70 & 80 years old and have put over $400,000.00 into the house, the total from the sale of our first home. We have exhausted my husbands savings and have depleted mine from $11,000.00 to $2400.00. In the next 2 or 3 months that will be gone and we will be in arrears. National City, as I understand it, has not signed the agreement with the government to abide by some rules and regulations that the government has stipulated as 18 other banking institutions have done. They are forceing good people who always had good credit to divest themselves of their life savings. On my block 3 homes have been foreclosed on, at least 4 others have tried to get loan modifications, 2 denied. This is out of 29 homes. The neighborhood below us has had at least 3 homes foreclosed on. Can someone please tell me where all the money that the banks were given is going if not to the home owners in trouble.
