Comments:The Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago (LAF) joins in the comments submitted by the National Consumer Law Center, the National Association of Consumer Advocates, and others. LAF is a non-profit organization that provides free legal services in civil cases to poor and underserved people in Chicago and suburban Cook County. LAF has had a Home Ownership Preservation Project since the early 1990's, making it one of the first legal aid organizations to defend working poor families facing foreclosure and victims of predatory lending. As the foreclosure crisis has spread, we also find ourselves engaged in complex mortgage rescue fraud litigation, negotiating loan modifications, and representing tenants in foreclosed buildings.
