Veterinarians are best suited for dispensing and checking on pet medication compliance and accuracy. We already write prescriptions to pharmacies and do not require regulations to continue this practice. The unique needs of veterinary patients with additives such as xylitol or medication metabolism are part of our extensive veterinary training. Oversight is essential as part of our daily patient maintenance. Adding a layer of regulation that could harm pets by preventing a veterinarian from checking on how that medication is dispensed or educating the client on its best use is not good for the client. In addition, pharmacy is a profit margin that if lost will lead to increased exam fees.
