My concern for outsourcing of medications is that the primary provider will not be able to see if the medications are filled on a timely basis. Veterinarians are not given samples of pharmaceuticals to get patients started until prescriptions are filled. Pharmacists have no knowledge of how these medications are metabolized in the cat vs dog vs rabbit vs guinea pig. If a client asks for a prescription for a medication, it is already provided. Why legislate that a prescription MUST be written so that Walmart (or other large pharmacies behind the bill) may increase their profit center base to include the animal industry, but are they trained to do it?
