Thank you for: Request for Comments and Announcement of Workshop on Pet Medications Issues, Project No. P121201. As a practicing veterinarian I am against this bill. I have several concerns: standards are already in place to allow consumers to get a written prescription for their pet's medication, pharmacists not trained in veterinary medicine will put pets in danger because they are not familiar with pet physiology and drug interactions and finally, to force me to write a prescription for a product I am dispensing is an undue burden on a busy practitioner. Please do not pass this legislation; it seems it has less to do with consumer protection than interests of big business such as Walmart and 1-800-petmeds. Put pet safety first and keep veterinary medicine with the veterinarian.
