As a private practioner, I am very concerned about the quality of care our patients receive. The purchase of medications is an ongoing challenge; our distributors and manufacturers must meet high standands of quality. Saving a $1 on medications may not provide the best quality product. Please understand the economics of providing portable prescriptions, if we divest our inventory, other costs go up. Our office visit will increase three fold; so that $1 saved on the meds will actually cost the client much more in the long run.
Besides the economic impact, veterinarians have always enjoyed and earned an excellent doctor-client-patient relationship. Putting a third party in the middle will only complicate this bond and potentially negatively affect it.
