Pet Medications Workshop, Project No. P12-1201"
This bill to require a prescription to be written for all medication whether an owner needs it or not is not necessary. Any owner that wants a written script can ask for one. It does not require a new law. IF their vet does not give them a script they can go elsewhere. Is Walmart going to show owners how to give the medications? Is Walmart going to monitor adverse reactions of the medications? Is Walmart going to carry veterinary products and weigh the animals to make sure the 6 month old prescription is appropriate for the growing puppy? Many clients do not have a clue about the proscriptions they are getting for themselves and less awareness about what their pets should be getting. At least when they come by the animal clinic for a refill there is someone with a veterinary background that can talk with the clients and make sure the appropriate medication is still being used or recommend a recheck exam if the problem is not resolving.
