Please examine how medications are being sold and distributed by non-veterinary entities. It really is alarming how easy individuals (ie pet owners) can obtain medications via the internet and retail establishments without any scrutiny for the welfare of the pet. The internet as well as commercial pharmacies....especially WalMart... have feasted on the vulnerability of the public without any restrictions. Veterinarians have become the last resort for pet owners for animal care...many feel overcharged for services that only a decade ago were extremely reasonable.....because the internet and retail entities did not have much impact on the consumer.
As a 32 year veteran of veterinary medicine, I am shocked by the cavalier nature that veterinary pharmaceuticals are being overseen by the FDA and other Federal organisations. Let's take a good look at what is in the best interest of the consumer....and place restrictions on over the counter veterinary pharmaceuticals!!!!!!!
