As a veterinarian, I gladly write prescriptions for any client that requests one. If a client wants to fill the prescription in-house at the clinic and I hand them a written prescription as well, what is to stop them from also filling that prescription at the pharmacy and self-medicating their pet the next time it seems ill? The next "illness" may be totally different from the first, requiring a different treatment. I see this bill as a disservice to pets, as owners may try to save money and diagnose illnesses without professional input. Veterinary practitioners are ethical people. We do not charge a fee for writing a prescription and our clients have always had the freedom to buy medications at whatever pharmacy they choose.
