I pay a ridiculous amount of money to keep my dogs in basic good health, but their medications may break me, seriously. I use coupons & eat Lean Cuisine from Target while my 13 yr old dog gets his heart medication, $120 a month, plus thyroid $22, flea medication & heartworm preventative for ONLY 6 months is $15 from the mobile VIP clinic (it wld be higher from my vet) plus food, vaccinations and any other healthcare that can arise, and it will. This is for ONE dog! And I have two, both rescues off the street. Plus, the 7 lb dog's flea & heart medications are often the same or just "slightly" less than the 60 lb dog. It's a total scam. No wonder so few animals are adopted--or dumped--because it's impossible to keep up with their health costs. Something needs to change. The veterinarian pharmaceutical industry is making a killing off the public, and we are all warned, by our vets, not to buy on-line because of the unreliability of the medication origin.
