We have had numerous times when we have given presciptions to clients to have drugs filled outside of our clinic only to find that the brand has been change or generic put in its place that doesn't work as good. We had a dog that a prescription was filled at a local pharmacy that substitued the wrong drug concentration and almost killed the dog. It took 3 weeks before the dog was able to walk on its own without help. Human pharmacies are not trained in how drugs interact in animals (which may be total different to people and also vary among species)and which breeds maybe more successible to adverse reations. We have been trained for many years to how drugs interact in animals and how they interact with each other, but human pharmacies have never been trained for this and would pose such a high risk of to animal welfare that it isn't worth the risk.
