Comments:Attached please find two papers that explore the issue of common privacy principles shared between the United States and the EU. Although they are focused on privacy vis-a-vis the state, given the cross-cutting nature of EU privacy laws, many of the comparisons also extend to individual privacy in the marketplace. In "Towards a Right to Privacy in Transnational Intelligence Networks" the discussion is to be found on pp. 7-11. "The U.S. Privacy Act in Comparative Perspective" is a briefing note that was prepared for the European Parliament in spring 2007.
