I am a Private Investigator who specializes in Process Service and Locates. I routinely use SSN's to ensure that I have the correct person for service of various legal documents. SSN's allow me to quickly and correctly identify that the correct person is residing/working at a particular address and that documents are correctly served. It becomes difficult to ensure that people with common names are correctly identified without the use of SSN. I have even had difficulty trying to locate persons who have uncommon names, nicknames, or go by some other name or alias using just birthdate or other identifiers. SSN use ensures greater accuracy in the service of legal documents and the location of witnesses, defendants, etc. I would urge you not to hinder us by disallowing this use of SSN's by persons and investigators with a valid use for this valuable resource.
