Gentlemen, I have been a licensed, bonded, and insured private investigator in WV for 19 years, and was a law enforcement officer before that. Nearly every day of the week I am called upon by insurance companies, law offices, and various large corporations to identify and locate witnesses in various investigations. I have successfully located many crucial witnesses in a number of cases by using their social security number. Many people have common names who would be very difficult to locate otherwise. If private investigators are restricted from social security information for lawful investigations, it will cripple our industry, and have a trickle down effect on insurance companies as well. Please continue to allow us access to this information for lawful investigations.
