Dear FTC members, EPIC states "the use of the Social Security Number as an identifier or authenticator . . . will increase rather than decrease instances of fraud and identity theft." I agree with this position and further argue that private companies should not be able to ask for, collect, and ultimately use my SS number for identification. I believe that the potential for abuse by these companies adds to or even out weighs the identity theft issue. I feel there should not be a way to link my education, financial history, and health records into one database. If nothing else it violates my right to be left alone- secure in the fact that some company is trying to profit from me or my personal information.
