RE: 16 CFR Part 307

Dear Federal Trade Commission:

I write to urge the FTC to carefully consider the data submitted by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health as it reviews its proposals for warnings on smokeless tobacco products.

The system in use in Canada is demonstrably superior to that proposed for the US. It escapes me why labeling in the US should be inferior to that in our neighbor to the north. Why not better than?

A black and white color scheme with larger type would increase visibility as well as an overall increase in the size of the required label.

If you decide to disregard the data developed by the State of Massachusetts, I would hope that you would do your own consumer research into this matter before making any decisions.

 Sincere regards,

 /s/ John Slade, M.D.
