I understand the Federal Trade Commission is considering allowing a further loophole on the regulations concerning the “Do Not Call” list. I, like I am certain many others, appreciate the relative silence brought about by this legislation, and only desire rule changes which will further limit the loopholes which already exist – those which allow calls to be made to people who have had relations with the company in the past, allowing calls by local businesses to those in their area of operation, allowing calls made by charitable organizations, and allowing calls made by political groups (an especially onerous provision). The only way to keep telemarketing groups from chipping away the already loose provisions is to change “opt out” to “opt in”. If there happens to be people who want to receive these utterly annoying interruptions and intrusions of their privacy, let them say so. For the rest of us, let us in peace. If the Federal Trade Commission needs something to keep them busy, work on stopping SPAM. Herbert L. Black
