I am opposed to allowing companies that have a pre-existing relationship with a customer to call using pre-recorded messages. I endured those kinds of calls during the presidential election and I find them most annoying. I have elderly relatives with health problems so I have to answer the phone. If a business wishes to contact me, they can include a flyer in my bill.. And those businesses that I wish to contact me about additional benefits, I can give them my e-mail address and they can contact me that way. The "do not call list" has been one of the best consumers laws passed in my lifetime. It is so nice not to be bothered with calls about products or services that you do not want. We are so flooded with so many forms of advertising from tv to radio to e-mail, newspaper ads, magazine ads, Internet ads, inserts in bills, that these companies have many alternative methods. I feel overwhelmed with all the advertising. It hits you everywhere we go. There are ads on the buses, billboards, naming rights to stadiums and other buildings. When will advertising end? There should be a place to go to get away from all of this and it should be in your home on your own phone. I prefer the opt-in if you make any change to this regulation and I plead for you not to make this change to begin with. This is my phone that I pay for and I think I should be able to control who calls me.
