Surely the volume of individuals who have registered, as well as the rapidity by which they have done so, serve as an indicator of the severity of the nuisance telephone marketing has become. Those who have registered for the list have voiced their desire to reduce the invasive role that modern advertizing plays in their lives. Please allow us to retain the level of telephone solicitation we currently enjoy - precious little. In changing the provisions of this act, you will be setting a dangerous precedent. Prior to the creation of the do-not-call registry, I seriously considered abandoning my terrestrial phone service in favor of my cell phone. In the event of any amendment that allows telemarketing levels in my home to increase, I will have no choice but to abandon my terrestrial line. There is no shortage of alternative means by which a company can peddle their wares. The telephone need not be one of them.
