I would like to register my dislike of the proposed amendment to the Telemarketing Sales Rule. The purpose of the Rule was to reduce the volume of sales calls received by those uninterested in them. The proposed amendment will destroy that effect. The delivery of pre-recorded messages is incredibly inexpensive. Allowing companies to send them - even only to people with whom they supposedly have a business relationship - will cause people to be swamped with unwanted calls. Furthermore, most people have 'business relationships' with many companies. If each business can make multiple, non-interactive phone calls to whomever they deem to have a 'business relationship' with, the total number of unsolicited calls to each household will only go up. Because a pre-recorded message cannot be told never to call again, there is no way to make the automated solicitations stop. The corporate interests behind these telemarketing campaigns will stretch the definition of "business relationship" until everyone's phones ring off the hook again. If this amendment is adopted, the spirit of the 'do not call' list will be dead. Thank you, Eleanor Howe
