The FTC rule that stopped telemarketers from calling my home may be the single most valuable act of government ever, in terms of how it has benefitted my family. Among my friends and associates, the change created by this law is universally acclaimed. To weaken it in any way, especially in such a vague way ("established business relationship") smells like a craven appeal to telemarketers and will not be tolerated by the public. And recorded calls? Did I read that correctly? I am certain that I have no use for prerecorded phone calls from anybody: not my friends, not my business associates, and certainly not from professional telemarketers.
