I am writing to express my extreme disapproval of the proposed amendment. I signed up for the Do-Not-Call list the day it became available, after several unpleasant interactions with phone solictiation (a phone company that I had had no prior relationship with called me SEVERAL times a day; every time I got hold of one of their supervisors -- supposedly each call originated from a different call center, and their in-house do-not-call list hadn't progated to all of them -- and told them that I did not want calls from them, I was given excuses). Under the proposed amendment, third-party telemarketing will be given much greater latitude in contacting me, and an automated message delivery system will shift the burden back onto myself and other consumers -- something I believe the DNC was created to address in the first place. Those of us on the DNC do not wish to receive phone solicitations. We are unlikely to buy anything from a phone solicitation, and we have been driven crazy by the unscrupulous methods some businesses use to justify continuing to harass us. Please do not give them any more leverage!
