Proposed changes to the Do Not Call List to allow recorded messages would turn our telephone into the same constant ringer it was during the election. Evenings at the end of October and the begining of November were constant recorded political messages, at least 10 and as high as 30 between 5PM and 9PM. How would you be able to control the number of calls that a prerecorded message could be sent to in any one time period, you could not control the number of calls sent by the politicians, and they were prerecorded. Since signing up for Do Not Call, our phone has been useful as acommunication device for our family again rather than a marketing device for any tom, dick,or harry who can dial our number, except during the election, which should serve as an example of what could happen with loosening of the restrictions on who may call. I do not pay for the phone to have a convenient marketing device attached to my wall, but to have a standard means of communication for people needing to communicate with my family. If the proposed chane to allow prerecorded messages to be sent to anyone without an opt-in when they have already expressed their option to opt-out of these calls, just how effective can the Do Not Call list be? The Do Not Call list will become meaningless since anyone who prerecords a message would then be able to send it to me and anyone else who has asked not to have this kind of verbal assault permitted. Please go one step further and require the politicians to discontinue the prerecorded messages sent to households on a hourly basis during the closing days of a campaign. If the politician cannot get someone "LIVE" to present the message, it should not be allowed. I urge you to leave the do not call restrictions as they are currently, the list has had the intended result, the constant verbal abuse has died. There are many other means of providing the type of message asked to be delivered in the recorded messages that allows those who wish to opt-in to the message to do so without subjecting the people who have opted- out to be subjected to the very thing they opted- out for some peace for themselves and their family.
