I have a 77 year old Mother who receives these calls already on her answering machine. She saves them all for me because, "They might be important." I have called the people, when possible, and told them to stop calling. However they often don't leave a number to call and say on the tape that it is a "courtesy call." How can it be courtesy to tie up someone's phone with junk??? My mother doesn't have caller ID, she doesn't think she needs it and uses a tape answering machine, like so many of her friends. I have asked my Mom's many friends, all in her age group and they all receive these calls, already. Being from a different time many attempt to call back and ask the person what they are talking about. What a great deal for the unscrupulous telemarketer, the senior called them and now they have a "business relationship" and are on the hook. At least until a family member puts a stop to it. This is a BAD RULE CHANGE. Okay, so we are not the rich folks that the people in Washington, DC like to listen to, but we are the folks who fight to defend our seniors from being ripped off. Allowing the calls to restart would be a huge problem for most of them. Please, please, think beyond the cries for money from the telemarketers and political parties and don't let this happen. Thank you for your time and interest. Susan R. Schultheis RN MSN
