I do not support any change in the rules regarding the National Do Not Call Registry. I consider telemarketing calls an intrusion of my and my family's privacy, which was the reason for the registry in the first place. This new rule proposes allowing companies with whom the consumer has an ongoing business relationship to interrupt families and clog answering machines with recorded messages. I believe that these companies have sufficient means to contact their existing customers as it is, without adding telemarketing. They can use direct mail and other advertising means. Another down side to picking up recorded messages is that even if the called party hangs up, the calling party, which in this case is a machine, does not give up the phone line until the calling party hangs up. This raises the risk that the receiving party cannot make outgoing emergency or 911 calls. This is an unacceptable safety risk to the receiving party. In short, I am happy with the Do Not Call Registry as it is, and I do not support in any way a change that makes this less restrictive on the calling parties. I do not want to be bothered at home, period. William C. Lowers
