I'd like to make sure Congress does NOT allow ANY telemarketers to call me if I am on the Do Not Call List. A prerecorded message is just as invasive as when a live human being is making the call. My experiences with telemarketers even AFTER I had signed up for the NY State Do Not Call list has been horrible. One time, I requested the telemarketer's supervisor, and was denied that request. Another time, a woman told me someone from her company would keep calling me until I spoke to someone about their product. That call WAS initially a computer-generated call where I kept hanging up as soon as I realized it was a recorded message. In order to stop those calls (sometimes 2 a day!!!), I finally had to call the number of the company to get my name off the list. The most recent harassment I had was when I said I was going to call the NYS Attorney General's office (since I am on the NYS Do Not Call List) and the person would not hang up the phone and DARED me to go ahead and call the Attorney General! When I asked for his name and company, he hung up on me!! These generally are not nice people placing these calls. Please keep the Do Not Call List in place for ALL calls. I would also like to see political parties and charities on the list, but I KNOW that isn't going to happen! Politicians who write these laws should know that I, as well as most people I know, refuse to make any donations to anyone who calls them on the phone. I think by doing this, a political party or charitable organization is cutting off their own nose to spite their face.
