I'm writing in oposition to the proposed amendment of the Telemarketing Sales Rule to create an additional call abandonment safe harbor to allow telemarketing calls that deliver a prerecorded message to consumers with whom the seller on whose behalf the calls are made has an established business relationship. I find such an intrusive practice an attempt to allow spam into the phone system. I try to filter it out of my E-mail and object to it even being allowed into the phone system. In addition, I do not support the Direct Marketing Association's request to change the period of measurement from 'per day' to 'per 30 days.' I suggest that telephone advertising be banned completely, thus saving the Direct Marketing Association the expense of implementing such a technology.
