I am very troubled that once again we cannot trust our governmental officials to look out for the interests of citizens. I signed up for the do not call list because I really do not want anyone calling me. I do not care if I am a customer or have contacted the business in the past. I am a mature adult and I can decide for myself when I want to talk to a business. If we are doing business there is no reason for them to be calling me on a whim. For a time I actually had my landline disconnected because I was getting so many of these calls. I have a 91 year old mother to care for and I need to have her privacy and her health respected. She becomes upset when a telemarketer calls and she does not know why he is calling. It actually will interfer with her health if we have to be subjected to these calls again. In many ways I resent the fact that if the do not call list is not respected, that my only alternative will be to discontinue my telephone service again. I do not want to disconnect the phone, as my mother needs it to be able to contact me at work if she needs help. The telephone is a wonderful convenience, please do not allow it to turn back into a monster. I appreciate any consideration you can give to the fact that this is much more than a business issue or an annoyance, it is a health care issue for many elderly people, my mother included. Thank you.
