Given that the existing Do Not Call legislation is, at best, a barely adequate piece of regulation on behalf of American citizens, it is dismaying to read about the proposal to further weaken it by the proposed amendment on a new call abandonment safe harbor. I am completely opposed to the concept and intent of this proposal. A far more satisfactory response to the relentless telemarketing organizations would be to strengthen Do Not Call by redefining the pre-existing business relationship. Customers would need to opt in with each business to receive such calls. I suspect the number of such opt-in consumers would be extremely small, clear evidence of where customer sentiments actually reside.
