I urge the FTC to not change the current Telemarketing Sales Rule. Creation of a safe harbor to allow pre-recorded telemarketing calls would lead to abusive behavior by companies. I am a strong supporter of the recently-enacted Do Not Call list, and I feel that if we permit pre-recorded messages to be left by companies we currently do business with, we would be taking a step backward instead of forward with regard to consumer protection. As a Do Not Call registrant, I still receive a great deal of calls from companies I currently do business with, as permitted by the act. I fear that if we allow these companies to leave recorded messages, the volume of these calls will become pervasive. Once again, please do not permit the current regulation to be changed. Thank you.
