Dear FTC: My opinion regarding this matter is that with prerecorded messages or with live operators, the telemarketing companies are a nuisance to the general public. Furthermore, the problem is aggravated when the victims of telemarketing insist they are not interested in the products offered, and the salesperson insists on trying to sell whatever else their company offers. At this point, the agressiveness of the telemarketer may turn an otherwise polite victim into an enraged person who just wants to be left alone. While the FTC may not be capable of regulating telemarketers' bad attitude toward the rejection of their products, it should at least protect us all by restricting the calls that come into our homes, through the telephone lines that we pay for. I hope the overwhelming response from the public to the "Do Not Call" list serves as a sign that most consumers believe that these unsolicited phone calls are not only annoying, but they are downright negative to the peacefulness of our homes.
