I am a US citizen and voter very much opposed to loosening the restrictions on unsolicited telemarketing. It has been a relief for the last few years being on the national (and California) "do not call" lists, compared to prior years of constant telephone calls (sometimes early a.m, after-dinner, or weekends). Just because I make a purchase with a credit card (which requires my divulging a phone number) does not mean I am giving permission to the merchant to call me! And there is nothing worse than the prerecorded calls that clutter up voicemail systems and can't be talked back to.
