Regarding the proposed amendment of the Telemarketing Sales Rule, I say NO! I hate having my answering machine filled with annoying automated announcements and advertising! It is a waste of digital space and interferes with legitimate calls by truncating those calls when available digital space has been used up. I hate tripping over myself to answer the phone only to be greeted by a computerized voice asking me if I "have unwanted debt" or "need new siding" for my brick house or rental unit. I hate not being able to end the calls by hanging up repeatedly. I hate not being able to call back and tell them I want off their lists! How is it fair that they have access to MY private phone number, but I can't have access to theirs? I despise this intrusion on my privacy and plead with you to rethink this amendment! Telemarketers are annoying enough as it is. I am on the Do Not Call list, yet I am STILL being victimized by these predators. If this amendment takes hold, I will be forced to eliminate my phone service completely out of sheer exasperation. Eliminating my phone service will also eliminate my email capabilities. The upside to this will be a reprieve from the thousands of spam letters I receive daily, between which are sandwiched a few emails from legitimate clients and friends. It is not like irritating television shows—I can CHOOSE not to watch what offends me with a simple click of the button on the remote. Unfortunately, there is no such option available for telemarketer messages! Eliminating junk ground mail was easy. I learned a trick sure to get your name removed from any lists, and it has worked. My mailbox may be empty some days, but my trash capacity has diminished and I am very pleased. However, there is no easy way to remove yourself from spam lists or call lists!!! The Do Not Call List brought hope by offering an option to alleviate some of the unwanted calls. They have diminished; but they still arrive and if the Rule is changed, I fear the amount will return to what it was prior to the initiation of the Do Not Call List. I am overwhelmed by intrusive, disgusting, annoying, irritating JUNK thanks to my phone and my email service, and if the Telemarketing Sales Rule is amended to make it even cheaper and easier for these irritants to be allowed in via my private home telephone number, I will seek refuge in the life of a Luddite, eschewing technology completely! People will only be able to reach me via carrier pigeon or the Pony Express, and that is becoming an ever-more appealing scenario. DO NOT amend the DO NOT CALL Telemarketing Sales Rule because I DO NOT want any telemarketing calls (or spam) of ANY kind. Thank you very much for listening. I feel confident that you will do what is best for the telephone customers of America.
