Comments:I successfully went through a debt settlement program and have referred many people to them. I am very thankful that I had an opportunity to go through that program. Otherwise, I would have not had the money or opportunity to go to college and obtain a degree. Instead, I would have been forced to get a second job and work for many years to achieve what I had in such a short amount of time within a debt settlement program. I felt that enrolling in a debt settlement program was a MUCH better option for me rather than to declare bankruptcy, go through a credit counseling service or just flat out not pay anything. I understand what's going on with this bill... It's being pushed NOT to protect the consumer. But to continue the endless flow of high interest payments and wealth to the credit card companies. Times are tight for everyone. I suggest that they suck it up and take what they can get just like the rest of us. If you guys were really interested in advocating on behalf of the little guy, you'd be restricting the credit card industry's ability to continuously financially rape the population as they are freely able to do so now.
