I certainly agree that unwanted, unsolicitied messaging in any electronic form should be curtailed to stop abuse. However, I ask that when reviewing this topic, please keep in mind that new technologies are currently emerging that will enable advantages in communications methods. Future enablement of automated communications will have positive effects on quality of life. Let's be sure that any regulations enacted will not stifle the advancement of potentially beneficial media. VoIP promises to enable Voice and Data Transmission in a converged fashion. This will result in new communication methods. For example, this technology could result in automated calls being placed from a Dr. to Patient the day before an appointment. This could result in Automated Travel Status calls placed to Airline passengers shortly before flight to notify of delays. Group messages to a local soccer team could notify of a rain cancellation prior to a game. These kinds of messages are beneficial. Please be careful when drafting any statements regarding the use of automated technology. Advances in technology do make this media easy to abuse; However, new development also provides advantages in our daily lives in quality of life.
