Comments:I am writing in favor of the Application I recently moved to Portland from Northern Virginia. Whole Foods and Trader Joe's have a strong presence in NOVA, and I am familiar with the products and services offered by both stores. I believe both stores compete in many areas, particularly with (1) health conscious consumers looking for organic and natural products; and (2) shoppers seeking gourmet and ethnic specialties. While living in Virginia, there were many instances when I had to choose which store to shop in based on factors other than product availability. I was grateful to have the choice. I do not have such a choice in Portland. Currently, Whole Foods does not have any serious competition from a large entity with a reputation for low prices for many of the same type of products it sells. If the Application is approved, that will change. This can only help consumers. In addition, both companies have shown they can exist in the same market without either becoming dominant. As a result, I urge the Commission to approve the Application. For the record, I do not have a financial interest in either company. Thank you.
