From: "Rick Purdy" purdy@bit-net.com I would like to propose that the FTC look into building a website that would provide a digital signature with the users date of birth encoded within. Coming from the FTC, or some other government body, I believe that these digital signatures would quickly be accepted as an official standard for age-verification. To allay the (frequently mentioned over the web) fears of government intrusion into personal lives, the official policy would be absolute anonymity once the applicant has proven their age. It would be necessary to look into how best to confirm the date of birth of the applicant, but I feel that this is a solution that would best serve the interests of both freedom of speech and privacy for adults, as well as protecting the children.
