Roslyn A. Mazer

Roslyn A. Mazer was appointed FTC Inspector General on March 29, 2015 and served through May 2018. She led the Office of Inspector General (OIG), whose mission is to promote economy, efficiency, and effectiveness in FTC programs and activities, and to detect and prevent waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement. Prior to joining the FTC, she was the Inspector General of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), where she was responsible for planning, conducting, supervising and coordinating inspections, audits, and investigations relating to the programs and operations of the ODNI.  Ms. Mazer also was Senior Advisor for Public-Private Information Sharing in the ODNI Office of the Program Manager, Information Sharing Environment (PM-ISE) – the national office dedicated to responsible information sharing, and, earlier, served as Special Assistant to the Director of National Intelligence.

Prior to joining the Intelligence Community, Ms. Mazer served in the Department of Justice OIG. There she led major reviews of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) compliance with the Attorney General's Investigative Guidelines, the FBI's use of national security letters, and the FBI's use of exigent letters, and conducted investigations of misconduct by senior Department officials. Ms. Mazer served in other senior positions in the Department of Justice, including as Associate Deputy Attorney General, Criminal Division Special Counsel for Intellectual Property, and as the President’s Chair and the Attorney General’s Representative to the Interagency Security Classification Appeals Panel.

Prior to her government service, Ms. Mazer was in private law practice in Washington, DC as a partner at Dickstein Shapiro LLC, specializing in media and First Amendment law, criminal defense, and complex civil litigation. Ms. Mazer earned her B.A. from Syracuse University and her law degree from the Columbus School of Law, Catholic University of America.

Ms. Mazer is a native of Baltimore, Maryland.
