FTC sends checks to people who got a loan from Aqua Finance
The FTC is sending 29,653 checks totaling more than $19.8 million to people who got a loan from household water treatment funding company Aqua Finance (AFI).
The FTC sued AFI, and the company paid money to settle. AFI’s network of door-to-door dealers sold water filtering and softening products. The FTC says these dealers misled people about the terms of the loan and pressured them to sign documents they didn’t understand. As a result, people paid more interest than they expected. In some cases, these loans prevented homeowners from selling or refinancing their homes and may have affected their credit.
The FTC is now using the money from the settlement to provide payments to customers. The settlement also banned AFI from misrepresenting the terms of its loans in the future.
If you get a check, please cash it within 90 days.
