When a natural disaster hits or a tragic event happens, you might be looking for ways to help the people in communities affected.
Unfortunately, scammers are also busy trying to take advantage. You want to make sure your money gets in the hands of charities you want to help.
There are some ways to make sure that happens.
Donate to charities you know and trust with a proven track record. Avoid charities that seem to have sprung up overnight related to current events.
Don't assume charity messages posted on social media are legitimate. And when texting to donate, confirm the number on the charity's website.
